Individualized Home Supports (IHS)
With or Without Training
Individualized Home Supports With or Without Training provides direct assistance and supervision to adults or children living in their own homes. Support staff offer help with daily living tasks, reminders, guidance, and coordination of community activities. Services may take place in the person’s home or in settings within the community.
This service was created under Minnesota’s Waiver Reimagine initiative and combines elements from former programs like Personal Support and Adult Companion. It is part of the 245D waiver services framework.
Who Qualifies for IHS With or Without Training?
Individuals who are approved for any of the following waivers may be eligible:
Family Members with Training
IHS with Family Training offers both support and training to individuals and their families in the home. Training must include at least one area related to community living skills, and the goal is to strengthen the family’s ability to support the person’s independence at home. Families may also receive additional support in any other area of community living services.
This option is available to both children and adults who live in their family’s home.
- For adults, the service applies when both the person and their family need support or training at home.
- For children, the service applies when either the child alone, or both the child and their family, require training in at least one area of community living.
